Luminary: Herman Maynard
Herman Maynard is currently President and CEO of Poly-5 Group, LLC, an orthopedic medical device start-up company near Santa Barbara, California. Prior to assuming this position, he served as a business turnaround and personal development specialist. In 1993, along with Susan Mehrtens, Herman co-authored The Fourth Wave, Business in the Twenty-First Century. He has been a guest lecturer at Stanford Graduate Business School on the topics of Transformation in Large Organizations; Competition, Cooperation, and Co-Creation; and on the Evolution of Human Consciousness. Herman has a keen interest in macroeconomics, emerging forms of governance, and tapping the knowledge and expertise of business to facilitate positive change.
Herman’s corporate background includes 22 years with DuPont where he held a number of professional and managerial positions in manufacturing, research, marketing, sales, product management, new business development, and administration. Consistently, his performance was characterized by quick, high impact, breakthrough results using innovative approaches with both people and technology. A highlight was a 22-month special assignment or challenge to go to the edge of technology and co-create with pioneers in the areas of innovative learning, the use of intuition in business, personal and organizational development, and mobilizing people to improve the health of our global environment. Prior to joining DuPont, Herman worked as a co-op student for Lockheed Georgia Co.
Herman has served on the Board of Directors for the World Trust, World Business Academy, International Center for Organizational Design, and People to People of Delaware. He was Co-Chair of the National Learning Foundation, Washington, D. C. and was selected for special panels to define curricula for educating business executives in the 1990’s and beyond by the International Management Development Institute, Lausanne, Switzerland and by the Creative Education Institute, Buffalo, NY. Herman graduated from Georgia Tech in 1969 with a bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering and has participated in numerous courses and seminars since then in marketing, management, and the development of personal and intuitive skills applicable to business.
